We Are Making an Impact in Vulnerable Communities
The Mission of Serving USA Matters – Prison Ministry Spotlight
We are called to reach the incarcerated with the good news of Jesus Christ. The need for these men and women to hear the gospel is huge. We are transforming lives through sharing the Gospel. And we are drastically reducing the rate of recidivism through our partner ministries.
Our support for prisoners and ex-offenders includes restorative and redemptive pre-release programming and discipleship, addressing life skills, and physical, spiritual, and vocational needs. We are making a difference to prepare these men and women for release better and then walk with them when they get out by providing housing, transportation, job placement, legal aid, and other wrap-around services to reduce the recidivism rate drastically.
2.2 Million Men and Women are Incarcerated
This number has steadily grown. These people need hope and the opportunity for restoration. Our partners work diligently to minister to them and to provide them with resources such as bibles, bible studies, continuing education, and community support.
95% of Prisoners Are Released
Many do not have a plan for life beyond incarceration. Reintegration into society is a critical time. We are so thankful to our ministry partners who are actively working to meet the needs of a population that is at risk of finding themselves back in prison.
Each Year Over 600K Will Return to Communities
Simple tasks like work and housing are difficult for people who are reintegrating into society after time spent in prison. Relationships and communities have changed. As they return to communities our partner ministries seek to help them to cover basic needs, mental health support, vocational opportunities, and most importantly a supportive faith community.
2.7 Million Children Have A Parent In Prison
These children face environments of poverty and a lack of resources. They face mental health challenges, and often find themselves without positive role models. They are at risk of continuing a cycle of crime.
2 Of 3 Are Rearrested
Sadly, many will return to a life of incarceration. They will get arrested once again for a crime.
Remarkably though we are seeing a different story! TUMI has seen an unbelievable 96.3% non-recidivism rate for its participants.
Through restoration in Christ, TUMI equips men and women for productive futures, reversing the cycle of crime and incarceration.
